Clark Area Chamber of Commerce meets
quarterly with date & time to be announced.
The October Chamber
Membership Quarterly meeting was held on
October
15, 2009 at
7 pm at
the Community Center.
Present were M/M Eric
Weerts, Karla Claussen, Clay Yeoman, Joey Latenski,
Greg Furness,
Melanie Smith, Mary McGillivray,
Beth Hollatz,
Sandy Caster, Tom LaBrie and Jeanette Warkenthien.
A copy of the current P/L and Balance Sheet was
given out along with the minutes of the April quarterly meeting.
These were accepted as presented.
Discussion followed about the upcoming
Spooktacular. A group of 6 people have agreed to spearhead the
Spookhouse.
Greg gave a power point presentation on the Tour
de Kota bike tour which will be making an overnight stop in
Clark
on June 9, 2010.
Discussion followed about
the steps necessary to make this a successful event. The Rotary Club
has secured entertainment for that evening.
All community members are encouraged to
join in and make this event work. When committies are formed to work
on this event, Tom LaBrie and Craig Speaker volunteered to help.
Greg reported that the Chamber will be having a
raffle drawing for three donated items with the tickets being $1.00
each and the drawing to be held at the Christmas Open House.

The Chamber Girls BB Tournament will
be November 14 and the Boys in February.
On a motion by Melanie Smith with a second by
Karla Claussen the Chamber agreed to have Nesdak administer the
revolving fund that has been awarded to the Chamber. All voting yea.

January 15, 2009 Minutes
Clark Area Chamber of Commerce Annual General
Membership Meeting
Present were Gerald & Myra Hartley, Joey Latunski,
Karla Clausen, Beth Hollatz, Jerry Hartley, Melanie Smith, Diana
Overby Greg Furness, Tom LaBrie, Joyce Helkenn, Bill Kirkac,
Margaret Grimm, Anna Kirkeby, Craig Spieker, Tami Sundvold and
Jeanette Warkenthien
The meeting was called to order by co-president
Greg Furness.
Minutes of the last annual meeting were approved
as presented.
A Balance Sheet and P/L for 2008 were approved as
presented.
Discussion followed about how to improve the 2009
Potato Days. Karla Clausen and others have been researching new
ideas for the event. They are trying to find a carnival and the band
Eclipse has been booked. Greg reported that potatoes have been
located for the 2009 potato wrestling but still need to find a way
to get them to Clark from out East. He also reported that this
year’s event will not have to compete with the Redlin Center event
as in past years. Jerry Hartley said that a 3 on 3 tournament is
being planned.
Other ideas put forth were a petting zoo and a fly
in breakfast at the airport. Another idea was to turn the parade
into a competition. These will be looked into further and all
members are urged to bring any ideas to the Chamber. Some new
daytime entertainment has also been booked.
Discussion followed about how to get the Arts in
the Park to be just that and not a flea market. Beth stated that the
mini pony rides that were here two years ago were a big hit and
would like to see them return this year.
Jerry Hartley reported that the 5th
and 6th
grade basketball tournament will start at 9 a.m. on Feb 7. Thus far
6 5th
grade teams and 8 6th
grade teams have entered. Four chamber members volunteered to help
take tickets at the gate. All Chamber businesses are invited to run
a special that will be printed on the back of the basketball
tournament program. The businesses that took advantage of this
before reported good results.
Greg reported on the background of the Variety
Store and stated that the Open House will be February 7 as there
will be extra people in town that day.
Election of board members followed.
On motions and seconds from the floor Karla
Clausen & Shane Daniels were elected to fill the positions being
vacated by Zoom Neill and Beth Hollatz. All members voted in the
affirmative. The terms of board members Jerry Hartley, Greg Furness
and Clay Yeoman have expired but on a motion and second from the
floor, all voting yea, these three will remain on the board until
such time as replacements are found.

The
Secretary & Financial reports were approved.
Many
items about this year Spooktacular were discussed and the event
is coming together nicely. Flyers will be printed this week and
be distributed next week.
Greg Furness
& Randy Gruenwald gave an update on the Variety Store. If all
goes well we should have the store open by the 1st
of December.
Jerry
Hartley said that
we should all give Greg & Randy a thank you for all the work
they have put into the Variety Store.
Tom LaBrie reported that their will be an
open house at the Industrial Park on Thursday, Oct 23rd.
Tom LaBrie has put together a flyer of
housing and area business. He will take this along with the
regular
Clark
brochure to
Aberdeen
next week to be handed out to the pipe line workers before they
go home for the winter months.
The
members agreed that we should have the same Christmas Promotion
cards as last year with a few adjustments.
